Bucks County To Celebrate Covered Bridge Day as Stover Myers Mill Reopens To Public

Event Features Driving Tours, Pop-Up Museum, Photo Calendar Contest

PERKASIE, PA, April 24, 2025 — Bucks County Covered Bridge Day, an event from days gone by, is returning on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in conjunction with the reopening of the Stover Myers Mill in Bedminster Township, officials announced today.

This free event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The Bucks County Covered Bridge Society is hosting the event at the Tohickon Family Campground at Sheard’s Mill Covered Bridge.

To get the official Tour app, just search for “Bucks County Covered Bridges” in the Apple App Store and Google Play Console. Or click one of these two buttons:

The app is perfect for a covered bridge “safari,” where people tour the bridges to enjoy Bucks County’s natural beauty and historic landscape.

The app is free on Apple’s App Store and Google Play, thanks to support from the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society and the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program.

Bucks County is the home of 12 historic covered bridges, which are one of the county’s most popular attractions. In August 1959, the first Bucks County self-guided covered bridge touring event took place, featuring eight covered bridges. This year, drivers can use the official Bucks County Covered Bridges touring app or a printed map brochure to take a similar route to 12 covered bridges.

The County’s Historic mills, like its signature covered bridges, are a celebration of its heritage landscapes. The County of Bucks is excited to time the grand reopening of the historic Stover Myers Mill in Bedminster Township,  to coincide with the Covered Bridge Day. The Stover Myers Mill is a historic water-powered gristmill built in 1800, listed on the National Register for Historic Places. The mill, situated on Dark Hollow Road in a 26 acre park,  is near the Cabin Run Covered Bridge. It had been closed to the public for restoration. But having received a Keystone Historic Preservation Construction Grant from the Pennsylvania Historic Museum Commission, it will reopen on May 31 and be open for tours, weekends 12-4 p.m. through the summer.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring back this event for the public and make it a special day to celebrate our beloved covered bridges,” said Scott Bomboy, chair of the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society. “The reopening of the Stover Myers Mil is another event for history lovers to celebrate.”

“Our covered bridges are some of the most iconic and beautiful representations of what the words ‘Bucks County’ mean to so many people. They are not just bridges which transport us over streams, they also connect us to our past,” said Robert Harvie, Chair of the Board of Bucks County Commissioners.

Tourists can download the Bucks County Covered Bridges touring app in the Apple App Store or in Google Play. Just search for “Bucks Covered Bridge Tours.” Printed brochures will be at the Tohickon Family Campground, the Stover Myers Mill, and other locations. Limited public rest facilities are at or near each location.

The Tohickon Family Campground at Sheard’s Mill Covered Bridge will feature a pop-up museum created by the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society inside its historic barn. The campground’s Covered Bridge Café will also be open to the public, featuring sandwiches, snacks, and one-of-a-kind ice cream sundaes. The Visit Bucks County Mobile Visitor, which is painted as a covered bridge, will also be at the host site.

As part of the fun, tourists can submit photos from Covered Bridge Day to be considered for the Society’s annual calendar. Folks who submit photos in-person from the Tohickon host location will also get a prize from the Covered Bridge Society’s “prize closet” of bridge mementos. Other crafts and items related to covered bridges will be on sale at the barn.

This event is supported by a generous donation from Penn Community Bank.
