It has never been easier to enjoy Bucks County’s cherished collection of covered bridges, thanks to a new mobile app that provides self-guided tours to all 12 wooden structures.
The Bucks County Covered Bridge Tour app uses GPS maps and audio storytelling to guide tourists on a curated drive through the most beautiful locations in Bucks County.
To get the app, just search for “Bucks County Covered Bridges” in the Apple App Store and Google Play Console. Or click one of these two buttons:
The app is perfect for a covered bridge “safari,” where people tour the bridges to enjoy Bucks County’s natural beauty and historic landscape.
The app is free on Apple’s App Store and Google Play, thanks to support from the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society and the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program.
After downloading the app, people can choose from curated tours, or use an interactive map to find the covered bridge closest to their current location.
About the Self-Guided Tours
Three driving tours, starting in Newtown Township, New Britain Township, and Tinicum Township, cover all 12 covered bridges on a 90-mile route, with the Mean’s Ford Pony Truss bridge in Ralph Stover Park as a bonus stop. The estimated driving time in five hours.
Three shorter tours, starting in Perkasie Borough, Newtown Township, and Tinicum Township, include seven or eight covered bridges, with an estimated driving time between three and four hours.
Each tour has a start page with an estimate of your touring time and an audio introduction. After you start the tour, the app will bring up your native map, such as Apple Maps or Google Maps, and offer your directions to your first stop.
If you enable your mobile device to allow STQRY to know your Background Location, audio will play when you approach each bridge, with the tour guide telling the bridge’s story.
Design Your Own Tour
Our you can just use the Map to see your current location. Just tap the icon for a covered bridge to get directions, tour audio, and special instructions on how to approach the bridge.
To save your tour locations, click on the Profile icon and save a covered bridge as a favorite location. Then you’ll have your own custom tour saved in advance!
